Takin’ It Outside
April 8, 2018
It won’t be long before we’ll be moving outdoors for our morning coffee, a sunny lunch or relaxing dinner. What could be more simple and welcoming than a long planked table and bench cozied up to a sprawling banquette? I’ve been inspired by this photo for so long, I’m thinking it might be time for a little weekend DIY before the weather breaks.

Did someone say picnic?

It might have been me. That’s what immediately came to mind when I spotted these concrete tables and benches in a local park. I had never seen anything like them before… old, weathered, yet with a decidedly modern edge. Picture it…racing through the ” golden arches” in a ’65 Corvair convertible and stealing away to the park for a little lunch…a little sun. It’s still summer people, slow it down.
Dining Out
June 27, 2013
Mid Century master Marcel Breuer designed this concrete block and stone patio table sometime in the middle of the last century. Now, re- imagine it for al fresco dining in 2013. A little planning, a trip to the Home Depot, Lowes or a local garden center can outfit you with the requisite concrete blocks, concrete block or paver adhesive and a big ol’ 4 x 8 sheet of marine ply to top it all off. Using this picture of the original, you can spin the basic concept off in any direction to get a modern look that is uniquely yours. This could be a great weekend project before the 4th, eh? Then all that’s left to do is fire up the grill.
