Still Celebrating

July 31, 2017

As the celebration of the 100th birthday of Florence Knoll continues, let’s explore the new Relax group that Knoll has introduced in Honor of her 100th year. Based on her classic three seat sofa released in 1954, this new seating features a deeper seat and a more relaxed sit…with four legs rather than the six found on the original Florence Knoll sofa. Like the original group, the new Relax collection offers a two seat sofa and lounge chair, all available in approved Knoll textiles and Spinneybeck Leather. While the original three seater has always been my hands down favorite, I can’t help thinking this new take on the classic might just be the perfect spot to indulge in a little  Netflix ” bingeing” this Winter.

It’s always good to follow ones intuition. While this particular stop was not planned, it couldn’t have produced a better result…this vintage Eero Saarinen executive lounge chair with walnut legs designed for Knoll in 1957.

or, just right. From the “drink” stool with it’s 9″ seat and 22″ height to the “dining stool” with it’s 15″ seat and 18″ height, you are sure to find one that is just perfect for you. Based on the three legged milking stool, and executed using classic woodworking techniques in oxidized walnut, these Shaker inspired pieces by Jonah Meyer of Sawkille Co. are surely the definition of simplequietfarmhousemodern.

Instead of seeing red,

February 9, 2014

I’m starting to see what appears to be a bit of blue peeking out of a darkly clouded sky. Yet more snow again this morning  has me focusing on simplequietmodern white inspiration that will take my mind off of the weather for now. And, that little hint of blue, aqua really, might just have me considering a new addition to my completely neutral surroundings. Maybe it’ll help you too.

A quick tour of the yard with your pruners could provide a branch or two of flowering Quince to force in this bulb vase from Heath. That’ll do nicely until the tulips are up and ready to cut and bring in. http://www.heathceramics.com/catalog/product/view/id/975/s/bulb-vase-8/category/40/#p147

The Smallest detail…

August 13, 2013

can make the biggest difference… the gap in the top of this coffee table by Pascha Design for example. The simple steel base and locally sourced oak slabs are the perfect play of thick and thin. But , it’s the space between the split top that takes this simplequietmodern statement from beautifully useful to artful.  As we reluctantly start to think about transitioning back indoors come Fall I can’t think of a better place to gather than around this table…in front of the fire, a movie… over coffee or sharing a pizza. OK, pizza it is.
