Never Forget

Twenty Years

The ultimate in simplequietmodern. I loved these two towers. The simplicity, the pairing, the scale. Even as a kid I knew that their presence would shape my design sensibility…and they did. Today in their footprint are the memorial fountains…a different simplequietmodern. Who could ever have known? I remember that morning in 2001 as if it were yesterday…sunny, clear, crisp. Now, I will never forget all of those lives lost…in NY, PA and DC. Take a moment today to remember them… and this place.

and you immediately had your bearings. No matter how turned around one would get running around Manhattan, they were always there to set your course straight. I’m remembering that today. That, and all of those lost on 9/11…in New York, Washington and Shanksville.

The day started simple enough…crisp and bright with clear skies that seemed bluer than blue. Then, the unthinkable. I remember it all as clearly as if it were yesterday. Fifteen years later and the horrifying images burned into my memory still bring me to tears. Let us honor all of those in New York, in Shanksville and at the Pentagon on that day with a moment of silence, a prayer, a promise to never forget.

And, they were something. The rest of the story we know too well. Remember this place and all of the people there, in Shanksville and the Pentagon with a moment of silence, a kind word, a random act of beauty. At the very least, raise the flag…never forget.
