Into The Darkness

October 10, 2022

As we move into Fall the shadows grow longer and the days get shorter. Preparing for the long descent into Winter I find myself  thinking about things I can’t do without. And, when there is a choice to be made, I most always go to black. Ticks all the right boxes. Done and done.

I can’t get this table by Chiara Ferrari outta my head. Perfect.  If you know who took this pic let me know.

My first flatware purchase was Ward Bennett’s GAP pattern in stainless, and I’ve been using it for longer than I’d care to say. If I do move onto something new, this will be it. Photo: Heath

With the holidays approaching I might suggest this upgrade to your apron wardrobe. You can’t go wrong with black linen. And, if you’re carrying in, dust it with a pinch of flour and hide the takeout containers.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that this Saarinen table is my favorite table ever. Any size , and until now, always in white. This recent introduction in black has a firm grip on me though. Equally stunning, the two In my mind are running neck and neck.  Photo: Knoll

There’s Still Time

December 15, 2016

While there’s still time to make that online purchase and receive it before Christmas, you might consider whipping something up yourself. This knit body mitt can be completed in a couple of hours and would be a great stocking stuffer, small gift when paired with a handmade soap or a little personal indulgence. Sitting  down to a bit of knitting zen couldn’t hurt either as things ramp up to the big day.

This near black cotton from Purl Soho is a perfect choice if you’re knitting it up yourself. And, it’s available in over forty colors. Simple put, cast on to knit up a rectangle 12″ wide and knit until you reach ten inches. Cast off, fold in half, seam up the side and close one end. I’d suggest a simple pattern of k 1 p 1 across and k all the way back…you’ll end up with a rib on one side and a pebbled texture on the reverse. Done.

Cleaning Up

December 4, 2016

I’m a sucker for a linen dish towel. What can I say? I love natural linen. And, with all the holiday baking, cooking, prep, entertaining and clean-up it seems I can never have enough. A good linen apron doesn’t hurt either. You might have someone on your Christmas list that might feel the same.

As you spring forward…

March 10, 2013

you loose an hour of sleep. To make up for that loss you’d be totally justified investing in new bedding to take you through the Spring and Summer months.  It is no secret that linen is my simplequietmodern fiber of choice so these thick, rumpled natural linen sheets and cases from Fog Linen should do nicely…ensuring plenty of sweet dreams and  restful nights.Foglinen_pcase

If you were lucky enough to call this bedroom yours, you’d be able to take full advantage of that additional hour each day. Perfect.tumblr_miu8dfXZ4x1qd5e3ao1_500_remashhttp://www.archdaily.com/336289/residence-in-keisen-masao-yahagi-architects/
