Into The Woods
May 20, 2019
To the beach…up North…or, to the shore. What does getting away this holiday weekend mean to you? To me, it’s simply enjoying a bit of peace and quiet. And, what could be more peaceful and quiet than this little black box of a retreat tucked neatly into the woods? Minimalist charred exterior, natural wood interior and every room with a view. Lovely.

Over the River

What better way to spend Thanksgiving weekend than to be cozied up in a simplequietmodern cabin in the woods? Picture it. You pull up to this simple shape clad in black corrugated, walk into the perfect interior combination of concrete and ply, toss a log on the fire and fall into the view. You’ve just gone from 60 to 0 in an instant, ready to sit back, relax and give some thought to Christmas and the month ahead.

Into the Woods
June 17, 2015
Or, maybe the edge of a lake. With a little planning , and these plans, you’re almost there. While it might be too late for a summer get-a-way this season, you can always start scouting locations for next years weekend destination. The “Trapper” model, by Form and Forest, is just 738 square feet of simplequietmodern vacation perfection.

What a grip!
January 22, 2014
And, it doesn’t look like Mother Nature will be loosening it up any time soon. With another week of temperatures well below the freezing mark, and wind chills in the single digits at best, it make you think twice about venturing out if you don’t absolutely have to. Just a glance outside can have you coming up with a dozen excuses to stay in, catch up on a few things and turn on the oven to help cozy things up. While it’s on you might try my simple adaptation of a Martha recipe for a Winter Salad; Farro with Roasted Red Onion, Grapes and Arugula. Again, not a recipe as much as a guideline and in simplequietmodern fashion, just a few ingredients.

Workin’ for the weekend.

And, some weeks it can’t come too soon… especially if you’re lucky enough to be getting away to a smart simplequietmodern cabin like this. Neatly tucked into the hills…a little inside , a little out…and that fireplace? Just the spot to cozy up to should the weather take a turn…which you know it will. Really, all we’ve had lately is weather, right? The only thing left to do is to count it down…c’mon Friday.
Fall Back
November 2, 2012
Now we’re moving into the graying image that is Fall’s second act. Changing intensities of light, neutralized color, texture and material will be peaking my interests and guiding me creatively through the next two months. Turning the clock back an hour seems like a simple action, yet the very next day everything looks different…quiet somehow. A “palate cleanser” perhaps before we gear up for the holidays that lie ahead.

Three Day Weekend
July 23, 2012
That’s what I need, a three-day weekend. At this cabin. Perfect. I’m not a fan of a steeply pitched roof, but somehow it works here, the simple comforting and welcoming shape of a Monopoly board game piece. A simple little summer house…with a surround of simple terraced decks and gravel paving. And, the genius touch of the storm shutters securing the doors and windows. Brilliant. I could grab a quilt and my pillow, throw Buddy in the car and hit the road…well, soon. Gladly it’s still only July. There are many summer weekends left.
